The 7 “I AM” statements of Jesus and what they mean!!

John 6:35 KJV

And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.

John 8:12  KJV

Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.

Then said Jesus unto them again, Verily, verily, I say unto you, I am the door of the sheep.

I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep.

Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:

Bread – G740 – ártos, ar’-tos; from G142; bread (as raised) or a loaf:—(shew-)bread, loaf.

G142 – aírō, ah’-ee-ro; a primary root; to lift up; by implication, to take up or away; figuratively, to raise (the voice), keep in suspense (the mind), specially, to sail away (i.e. weigh anchor); by Hebraism (compare H5375) to expiate sin:—away with, bear (up), carry, lift up, loose, make to doubt, put away, remove, take (away, up).

H5375 – nâsâʼ, naw-saw’; or נָסָה nâçâh; (Psalm 4:6), a primitive root; to lift, in a great variety of applications, literal and figurative, absolute and relative:—accept, advance, arise, (able to, (armor), suffer to) bear(-er, up), bring (forth), burn, carry (away), cast, contain, desire, ease, exact, exalt (self), extol, fetch, forgive, furnish, further, give, go on, help, high, hold up, honorable ( man), lade, lay, lift (self) up, lofty, marry, magnify, × needs, obtain, pardon, raise (up), receive, regard, respect, set (up), spare, stir up, swear, take (away, up), × utterly, wear, yield.

Psalm 4:6 – There be many that say, Who will shew us any good? Lord, lift thou up the light of thy countenance upon us.

Light – G5457 – phōs, foce; from an obsolete φάω pháō (to shine or make manifest, especially by rays; compare G5316, G5346); luminousness (in the widest application, natural or artificial, abstract or concrete, literal or figurative):—fire, light.

G5316 –  phaínō, fah’-ee-no; prolongation for the base of G5457; to lighten (shine), i.e. show (transitive or intransitive, literal or figurative):—appear, seem, be seen, shine, × think.

G5346 – phēmí, fay-mee’; properly, the same as the base of G5457 and G5316; to show or make known one’s thoughts, i.e. speak or say:—affirm, say. Compare G3004.

G3004 – 1. to collect, gather; to pick out.  2. to lay with, count with; to enumerate, recount, narrate. describe;

John 1:5    King James Version

And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.

Acts 26:18

To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me.

Ephesians 5:8, 11

For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light:

11 And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.

Ephesians 6:12

For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

Door – G2374 – thýra, thoo’-rah; apparently a primary word (compare “door”); a portal or entrance (the opening or the closure, literally or figuratively):—door, gate.  the door through which sheep go in and out, the name of him who brings salvation to those who follow his guidance “an open door” is used of the opportunity of doing something, the door of the kingdom of heaven (likened to a palace) denotes the conditions which must be complied with in order to be received into the kingdom of God.

Matthew 7:13-14    King James Version

Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:

14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.

Sheep – G4263 –  próbaton, prob’-at-on; probably neuter of a presumed derivative of G4260; something that walks forward (a quadruped), i.e. (specially), a sheep (literally or figuratively):—sheep(-fold). 

Jeremiah 23:1  King James Version

Woe be unto the pastors that destroy and scatter the sheep of my pasture! saith the Lord.

We are His sheep and this is mentioned so many times throughout the Bible!!

Shepherd – G4166 –  poimḗn, poy-mane’; of uncertain affinity; a shepherd (literally or figuratively):—shepherd, pastor.  A shepherd in the Near East was responsible for watching out for enemies trying to attack the sheep, defending the sheep from attackers, healing the wounded and sick sheep, finding and saving lost or trapped sheep, loving them, and sharing their lives and to earn their trust.

Resurrection – G386 – anástasis, an-as’-tas-is; from G450; a standing up again, i.e. (literally) a resurrection from death (individual, genitive case or by implication, (its author)), or (figuratively) a (moral) recovery (of spiritual truth):—raised to life again, resurrection, rise from the dead, that should rise, rising again.

G450 – anístēmi, an-is’-tay-mee; from G303 and G2476; to stand up (literal or figurative, transitive or intransitive):—arise, lift up, raise up (again), rise (again), stand up(-right).

G303 – aná, an-ah’; a primary preposition and adverb; properly, up; but (by extension) used (distributively) severally, or (locally) at (etc.):—and, apiece, by, each, every (man), in, through.

G2476 – hístēmi, his’-tay-mee; a prolonged form of a primary στάω stáō stah’-o (of the same meaning, and used for it in certain tenses); to stand (transitively or intransitively), used in various applications (literally or figuratively):—abide, appoint, bring, continue, covenant, establish, hold up, lay, present, set (up), stanch, stand (by, forth, still, up). Compare G5087.

G5087 –  títhēmi, tith’-ay-mee; a prolonged form of a primary θέω théō theh’-o (which is used only as alternate in certain tenses); to place (in the widest application, literally and figuratively; properly, in a passive or horizontal posture, and thus different from G2476, which properly denotes an upright and active position, while G2749 is properly reflexive and utterly prostrate):—+ advise, appoint, bow, commit, conceive, give, × kneel down, lay (aside, down, up), make, ordain, purpose, put, set (forth), settle, sink down.

Life – G2222 –  zōḗ, dzo-ay’; from G2198; life (literally or figuratively):—life(-time). Compare G5590. the state of one who is possessed of vitality or is animate, every living soul, life of the absolute fulness of life, both essential and ethical, which belongs to God, and through him both to the hypostatic “logos” and to Christ in whom the “logos” put on human nature, life real and genuine, a life active and vigorous, devoted to God, blessed, in the portion even in this world of those who put their trust in Christ, but after the resurrection to be consummated by new accessions (among them a more perfect body), and to last for ever.

G2198 –  záō, dzah’-o; a primary verb; to live (literally or figuratively):—life(-time), (a-)live(-ly), quick.

To live, breathe, be among the living (not lifeless, not dead) to enjoy real life, to have true life and worthy of the name active, blessed, endless in the kingdom of God, to live i.e. pass life, in the manner of the living and acting of mortals or character, the living water, having vital power in itself and exerting the same upon the soul, to be in full vigour, to be fresh, strong, efficient, active, powerful, efficacious.

G5590 –  psychḗ, psoo-khay’; from G5594; breath, i.e. (by implication) spirit, abstractly or concretely (the animal sentient principle only; thus distinguished on the one hand from G4151, which is the rational and immortal soul; and on the other from G2222, which is mere vitality, even of plants: these terms thus exactly correspond respectively to the Hebrew H5315, H7307 and H2416):—heart (+ -ily), life, mind, soul, + us, + you.

His breath is in you and He can remove that any time people forget this FACT!!!!!!!

Way – G3598 – hodós, hod-os’; apparently a primary word; a road; by implication, a progress (the route, act or distance); figuratively, a mode or means:—journey, (high-)way.

Truth – G225 – alḗtheia, al-ay’-thi-a; from G227; truth:—true, × truly, truth, verity.  truth as a personal excellence that candour of mind which is free from affection, pretence, simulation, falsehood, deceit.

G227 – alēthḗs, al-ay-thace’; from G1 (as a negative particle) and G2990; true (as not concealing):—true, truly, truth.

G1 – Alpha – al’-fah; of Hebrew origin; the first letter of the alphabet; figuratively, only (from its use as a numeral) the first:—Alpha. Often used (usually ἄν án, before a vowel) also in composition (as a contraction from G427) in the sense of privation; so, in many words, beginning with this letter; occasionally in the sense of union (as a contraction of G260).

G2990 – lanthánō, lan-than’-o; a prolonged form of a primary verb, which is used only as an alternate in certain tenses; to lie hid (literally or figuratively); often used adverbially, unwittingly:—be hid, be ignorant of, unawares.

True – G228 – alēthinós, al-ay-thee-nos’; from G227; truthful:—true.

Vine – G288 – ámpelos, am’-pel-os; probably from the base of G297 and that of G257; a vine (as coiling about a support):—vine.

G297 – amphóteros, am-fot’-er-os; comparative of ἀμφί amphí (around); (in plural) both:—both.

both of two, both the one and the other.

G257 – hálōn, hal’-ohn; probably from the base of G1507; a threshing-floor (as rolled hard), i.e. (figuratively) the grain (and chaff, as just threshed):—floor.

G1507 – heilíssō, hi-lis’-so; a prolonged form of a primary but defective verb εἵλω heílō (of the same meaning); to coil or wrap:—roll together. See also G1667.

G1667 – helíssō, hel-is’-so; a form of G1507; to coil or wrap:—fold up. To roll up or fold together.

Revelation 6:14    King James Version

And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; and every mountain and island were moved out of their places.
