So in Nehemiah we have 2 people coming against him trying to stop him rebuilding the walls of Jerusalem after the captivity about 444BC (which were destroyed again in 70AD) which the king had given him permission to do. The names of these two men were Sanballat and Geshem (Gashmu) the Arabian they tried to manipulate him but he was like no I am just going to carry on!!! In verses 15-19 the wall is finished!!! So let’s look at some of the names and places mentioned:
Sanballat – a satrap of the king of Persia, he was a Horonite or Moabite who were the sons of Lot from Sodom. He belonged to an old Babylonian family holding office under the Persian government (all governments were of foreign in nature not of God) Sanballat is Sin Bal It which means god save the life but the god they are talking about is Sin who is the moon god not the Living God, so his name means the moon god (sin) has healed, also hated in secret and lauded by the army.
Geshem or Gashmu means violent rain, heavy shower, he was an Arabian which means mixed – mixed race. He was an Arabian who had close connections with the Samaritans and his name appears on a silver vessel dedicated to the goddess Han-Ilat or Al-Lat who was a daughter of Allah or the female version, she is also known as Athena, Minerva, Astarte, Atargatis and Allatu. Also associated with Aphrodite but basically Ishtar!!! She was called the “great goddess” or “the mother of the gods” is this beginning to sound familiar like yesterday??? Yup because they are all one and the same “queen of Heaven” or “mother goddess” just different names in different cultures!!! See my link on my last post to the cult of Ishtar on my blog!!! Her name is associated with this verse in Ezekiel 8:3 – And he put forth the form of an hand, and took me by a lock of mine head; and the spirit lifted me up between the earth and the heaven, and brought me in the visions of God to Jerusalem, to the door of the inner gate that looketh toward the north; where was the seat of the image of jealousy, which provoketh to jealousy.
She was the image of jealousy and remember Ezekiel 8 – 33 is the reasons for their captivity this was the captivity that Nehemiah had just come out of!!! This is what wiki says about her:

The “Grinder” legend – Various legends about her origins were known in medieval Islamic tradition, including one which linked al-Lat’s stone with a man who grinds cereal (al-latt, “the grinder”). The stone was used as a base for the man (a Jew) to grind cereal for the pilgrims of Mecca. While most versions of this legend place the man at Ta’if, other versions place him at either Mecca or ‘Ukaz. After the man’s death, the stone, or the man in the form of a stone, was deified, according to some legends after the Khuza’a drove the Jurhum out of Mecca, while other legends report it was Amr ibn Luhayy who deified the grinder.
Michael Cook noticed the oddity of this story, as it would make al-Lat masculine. Gerald Hawting believes the various legends that link al-Lat with that of al-latt, “the grinder”, was an attempt to relate al-Lat with Mecca. He also compared the legends to Isaf and Na’ila, who according to legend were a man and a woman who fornicated inside the Kaaba and were petrified.
Mythological role – F. V. Winnet saw al-Lat as a lunar deity due to association of a crescent with her in ‘Ayn esh-Shallāleh and a Lihyanite inscription mentioning the name of Wadd over the title of ‘fkl lt. René Dussaud and Gonzague Ryckmans linked her with Venus, while others have thought her to be a solar deity. John F. Healey considers al-Uzza actually might have been an epithet of al-Lat before becoming a separate deity in the Meccan pantheon. Redefining Dionysos considers she might have been a god of vegetation or a celestial deity of atmospheric phenomena and a sky deity. According to Wellhausen, the Nabataeans believed al-Lat was the mother of Hubal (and hence the mother-in-law of Manāt).
It has been hypothesized that Allah was the consort of al-Lat, given that it is typical of deities in that area of the world to have consorts.
In Ta’if, al-Lat’s primary cult image was a cubic stone, sometimes described as white in colour. Waqidi’s mention of the ‘head’ (ra’s) of ar-Rabba may imply that the image was perceived in human or animal form, although Julius Wellhausen resisted this implication.

One Nabataean relief of Athena-al-Lat depicts the goddess bearing both Athena and al-Lat’s attributes. Al-Lat can also be identified with the Babylonian goddess Ishtar, with both of the deities taking part in prosperity, warfare, and later being linked to Aphrodite and Athena. Ono H207 – means strong and valley of the craftsmen. It comes from the root H202 which means ability, power, wealth and is the same as H205 – to exert oneself come to nought, trouble, vanity, wickedness, evil, false, specifically an Idol.
But I found this also which is more than likely the same word as above because the Hebrew has been corrupted so much and strongs concordance leaves out all the important information the lexicon is better but also leaves out so much!!!
On – which is used of Bethshemesh a place in the land they call Israel although today they call it Beit Shemesh!!! Interestingly this was the city I lived near when out there my Kibbutz was about 12Km from this city!!! So Bethshemesh means “house of the sun” or “sun-temple” and was the centre of sun worship in Egypt it housed the royal descendants of the sun god who was Nimrod the obelisks were his pillars of worship hence why they are all over almost every country on the face of this earth!!!
